The donation boxes of the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal are overflowing this Ganpati festival, with the ninth day's collection setting a record for cash receipts in a single day for any mandal in the event's history..

While the total collection during Ganeshotsav so far has been Rs 5.56 crore, the ninth day saw no less than Rs 1.03 crore in cash put into the donation boxes.


Every day 50 to 60 VIPs visit the pandal

The mandal has also received donations by cheque. Besides the common man, a large number of VIPs also seek the blessings of the Elephant God and make handsome donations.

Every day 50 to 60 VIPs visit the pandal. The Raja attracted unexpectedly large crowds in the last five days, said Rajendra Lanjwal, mandal treasurer.

"We thought the crowd would be more on the weekends, but the crowd started pouring in from Monday. This year the collection after 11 days is likely to be more than Rs 6 crore," he said.
