Former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi has accused Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary N Srinivasan of personal vendetta in filing a criminal case against him.
Former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi has accused Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary N Srinivasan of personal vendetta in filing a criminal case against him.u00a0Yesterday, Srinivasan launched a police complaint against Modi for various acts, which attracted the Indian Penal Code.
The complaint, for criminal appropriation of 470 crores, were pressed for charges pertaining to the media rights, free commercial time and security issues.
"The police is being misled by invoking the jurisdiction on the basis of the BCCI's registered office in Chennai," Modi's lawyer Mehmud Abdi told MiD DAY. "Why are they filing the complaint from Chennai? What's so special in Chennai? It is because the comfort level of Mr Srinivasan is optimum in his hometown," Abdi added.
"A criminal complaint is filed where the offence is committed and according to where somebody's office is situated," he said. "If that is the case, then why the criminal case against Mr Jagmohan Dalmiya was filed in Mumbai? BCCI's office is in Chennai for the last 40 years. Still they filed those cases in Mumbai. Why?
A three-member disciplinary committee comprising Arun Jaitley, Chirayu Amin and Jyotiraditya Scindia will resume its hearing in New Delhi tomorrow. Abdi said, "They (BCCI) have rendered the ongoing disciplinary proceedings meaningless. Already nothing is coming out of those hearings," he concluded.
