Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar witnessed an uncomfortable situation when his entry to the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Florida was delayed by security officials just before the start of the second T20 between India and West Indies in USA on Sunday.

Luckily, things didn't go out of hand as the 67-year-old obliged fans clicking selfies with them.

"The delay was not intentional, it was a matter of verifying the credentials to enter the gate Mr Gavaskar was stopped by the (inner) security firm operating the gates," Andrew Dunbar, who headed the security operations at the facility for both the teams, said yesterday. "On behalf of everyone involved, I do apologise for Mr Gavaskar getting delayed at the gate," he said.

Dunbar has seen several matches at Sabina Park, Kingston. However, he has not watched Gavaskar play. "I did not have the privilege of seeing him play. If I had a chance to interact with Mr Gavaskar, I would certainly enjoy talking cricket with him," he added.

This is not the first instance when Gavaskar was denied easy entry at a cricket stadium. The Marylebone Cricket Club stewards denied him entry at Lord's in 1990 and didn't allow him through the Grace Gates. For several years, Gavaskar refused offers to become a life member of the club, but relented later.
