While the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) decision to put an age cap on future selectors raised a few eyebrows within the cricketing fraternity, the Board secretary Ajay Shirke said the decision was taken keeping the shortest format of the game in mind.

"The 70 years cap is for administrators (recommended by Lodha panel). The main reason for the 60-year age cap for selectors is the T20 format of the game. A selector, in the bracket (60 to 65 years) would not have played all three formats of game. They might have played ODIs but not T20s," said Shirke.

However, former selector Pranab Roy wasn't happy with the age limit for selectors.

"Does that mean former cricketers have no idea of T20 cricket? You will find former cricketers in their 60s who are fit and healthy enough to travel for matches," Roy told mid-day.

"If a person from the banking sector can get a job in a corporate house after his retirement based on his experience and expertise, why can't cricketers become selectors after crossing 60?" Roy asked.

Former BCCI selector Venkat Raja said: "I can understand if they (BCCI) said travelling can make it a little tougher for a selector in his 60s. But T20 experience is not a logical reason."
