Officials of the Dattawadi police station arrested Ashish Bharat Jadhav (25), a resident of Uttamnagar on Kopre Road, for allegedly assaulting his acquaintance Rakesh Rajkumar Tiwari (33).
Tiwari is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Assistant Police Inspector V S Shingte is investigating the case.
Officials said Jadhav, son of a police constable, was booked for his suspected involvement in a murder case that was registered four years ago at the Warje police station. Tiwari had testified against him in the court and Jadhav attacked him to seek revenge, said the police.
The incident took place at Snehal wine shop near N S Phadke Chowk in Sadashiv Peth around 6 pm on Saturday, following which a case was registered against Jadhav and his brother Amit.
Inspector Satish Govekar of the Dattawadi police station said, “Tiwari and Jadhav were residing in the same area when the murder took place. Since Tiwari had witnessed the crime, he deposed in the court against Jadhav last week.
Jadhav, who was out on bail, reached the wine shop where Tiwari works as a manager and assaulted Tiwari with a sword with his brother’s help.” u00a0
