Anil Kapoor sure has some loyal fans in the Railway Protection Force (RPF). Even as the cops are on a war footing to end the menace of train stunts, they refuse to take action against the Bollywood actor who had raised quite a few eyebrows on July 14, when he dangerously leaned out of a running local train to promote his TV show. In fact, now the RPF claims Kapoor didn’t even break any rules.

Bad example to youth
Just a day after the stunt, Western Railway (WR) had sent a notice to the event management company to demand an explanation for such blatant disregard of safety regulations. The Western Railway (WR) officials had claimed then, that by leaning out of the running train from the footboard, the actor could inspire youngsters to perform similar life-threatening stunts. Now, the same authorities seem loathe to address the issue.

GRP demands action
Further, on September 9, the Government Railway Police (GRP) also wrote to the RPF, asking them to take action under Section 156 (Travelling on roof, step or engine of a train) of the Indian Railway Act, 1989. The offence is punishable by imprisonment for up to three months or a fine of up to Rs 500 or both. “We don’t have any powers to act against footboard travellers as that falls under the Railway Act, which is the jurisdiction of the RPF. That is why we wrote to them to take action,” said GRP Commissioner Niket Kaushik.

RPF in denial
Videos and pictures of the actor’s real-life stunt went viral, and they clearly show him leaning out of the running local. Although his feet are not in view, he was likely standing on the footboard of the coach — a prohibited act.

However, the RPF doesn’t seem to think any rules were broken. “The actor was not standing on the footboard, neither was he travelling on the rooftop, to our knowledge. So there is no offence made against him,” claimed Somnath Sapnkal, senior police inspector of Churchgate RPF. He added, “We haven’t received any letter from GRP. Even if we get it, we can’t book the actor as there is no offence made out.”
