The minor was found dead in Malwani on May 23; the accused’s DNA was a match for blood found on the girl’s body
A youth was yesterday arrested for allegedly raping and murdering a minor girl in Malwani in May, police said yesterday.
The 7-year-old girl, resident of Patelwadi in Malwani, went missing on May 23, and her body was found near a creek in the INS Hamla area the same night.
Medical examination had revealed that she was raped and then murdered.
The police zeroed in on some men in the surrounding areas and had sent their blood samples to forensic lab for DNA analysis.
“We received the FSL report on Tuesday and the DNA profile of Sadalu Saroj matched with the blood found on the girl’s clothes,” a police officer said.
Saroj, who lives in the same area, was arrested late last night, the officer said.
A court yesterday remanded him in police custody till July 11. Further investigation is on.
