Mumbai University seems to be setting new records on missing deadlines. Having failed to deliver results on July 31, the MU has now missed the deadline set by the chief minister as well. The CM had announced that the university will declare results by August 5 - today. But till yesterday evening, the Mumbai University was to still correct almost 2.5 lakh answer sheets. Out of total 477 examinations held by it, results of only 254 have been declared as yet.

The Mumbai University's examinations were over around April. As per rules, it was to declare results of any examination within 45 days of the last paper. After it failed to do so, and was not able to declare results even after over two months had passed, angry students and youth wings attached to various political parties began agitations. The Governor of Maharashtra, in his capacity as Chancellor of all state universities, then stepped in to intervene, and gave the varsity a deadline to declare all results - July 31. But even after promising to meet the deadline, the varsity failed to do so which further heated the atmosphere with more agitations and protests. It was then that CM announced that the Mumbai University will declare results by August 5. But on the eve of August 5, it was learnt that it is still stuck with 2,47,947 answer sheets to be corrected.

The Mumbai University's ambitious On-Screen Marking (OSM) process to speed up the evaluation has also backfired with hasty implementation. "We spend time at the assessment centre waiting for the software to work glitch-free, as sometimes answer sheets take much longer to load. The server's productivity has improved but other technical glitches continue as wrong answer sheets come in our basket for assessment. There are also instances when we have completed our given quota of answer papers but more answer sheets are added to our basket," said a professors.
