Iqbal Abdulla's maiden Ranji Trophy five-wicket haul couldn't have come at a better time. With just one outright win in four matches, Mumbai desperately needed to win by a big margin.
Mumbai's left-arm spinner Iqbal Abdulla took 5-58 against Gujarat
The 39-time champions Mumbai thrashed an unimpressive Gujarat by an innings and 167 runs with a day to spare to pocket six points in their Ranji Trophy Super League match at Valsad yesterday.
Resuming at their overnight score of 121 for two, the hosts were eventually bundled out for 162 in reply to Mumbai's mammoth first innings total of 544. Mumbai asked Gujarat to follow on, but the script was no different as Parthiv Patel's men folded for 215.
Twenty-one-year-old left-arm spinner Abdulla, who was the wrecker-in-chief in the hosts' second innings, was delighted with his performance. "I was taking four wickets in the previous games, but that one wicket always eluded me. I was desperate to take five wickets and I am happy that it has come at such a time.

"A fifer always feels good and will surely boost my confidence for the rest of the season," Abdulla, who took 5-58, told MiD DAY yesterday.Mumbai now have 20 points from five matches.
