Mohammad Sajid Shaikh would pretend to pay a loan that he took from the victim’s kin and flee with valuables; he targeted women from the Bohri community
Byculla police has arrested a 30-year-old man for cheating Bohri community women of their gold jewellery. According to the police, Mohammad Sajid Sahid Shaikh has deceived around 27 women, mostly senior citizens.

They have recovered around 200 gram of gold from the accused and returned it to the victims. Suresh Magdum, senior inspector of Byculla police station said that they received several complaints from the women of Bohri community of the man who would cheat and run away with their bangles, in the pretext of helping them.
Once the conversation starts, he appreciates their gold bangles and asks to look at them, saying he is planning to get a similar set for his sister
Some women managed to get his bike number that he used for a getaway. The police was able to trace and arrest him in Mumbra on Tuesday, as the bike was registered under his name.

“Shaikh knew that women of the community were soft spoken and helpful, and therefore, an easy target for him.” With permission from court, Byculla police returned around 200 gram of jewellery to eight women who were cheated by the accused.

Another three cases have been resolved by the Nagpada police and they will be returning the jewellery to the victims. The accused is presently under the custody of JJ Marg police.
