RK Raghavan, the former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) chief and JN Patel, the ex-chief justice of the Calcutta High Court are other members of the panel.

“I will need to talk to the BCCI very extensively about my new responsibility. As things stand, I will return to India from Dubai on May 2 or 3, but if I am summoned (for the probe) in between, I will make my travel plans accordingly,” Shastri said from Dubai yesterday.

Need clarity
About whether he will have to suspend his commentary assignments, Shastri said: “I really don’t know who will ask me not to do commentary. That’s why I need to talk to the BCCI in order to make my future plans.”

JN Patel was the appointed Supreme Court judge of the Special Court constituted to deal with the Mumbai bomb blasts case in 1993. Shastri added: “I really don’t know what my exact role will be. I am surprised that the learned BCCI members proposed my name.”
