National-award-winning director Gajendra Ahire's period film "Nilkanth Master" will release across Maharashtra and in London on August 7.

"The movie will have theatrical release across Maharashtra on August 7. On the same day, the movie will also be released at five locations in London," the film's producer Balbheem Pathare told PTI today.

"Nilkanth" was the closing film for recently concluded Goa Marathi Film Festival held in Panaji.

"We have created era of late 40s through this film when entire country was witnessing the fight for independence.

I was looking out for a strong story which will speak about the history. This film also has a commercial viability," said Pathare.

The movie stars Vikhram Gokhale, Kishore Kadam, Adinath Kothare, Omkar Govardhan, Neha Mahajan, Pooja Sawant, Pradip Velankar, Amita Kopkar, Rahul Solapurkar and Mangesh Desai.

"Indians living in London demanded through distributors that we should showcase the movie there," Pathare said.

Omkar Govardhan, who has played the role of Nilkanth Master, said he went through some of the old recordings and documents while preparing for the role.

"The era is of late 40s. It is difficult to say how far I have been able to give the justice but it's very special film for me. I am well versed with the history. I feel that as a youngster I should know my history, otherwise I can't think of the future," Omkar said.

"It was difficult working on the role about Nilkanth Master's love. But Director Gajendra Ahire make the entire making easy," said Pooja, who has worked in Marathi films like "Poshter Boyz" of Shreyas Talpade.

Pooja who is wearing traditional nine yard saree in this movie said, "I don't believe that being traditional is not stylish. In this film, the look goes well with the character."

"Coffee Ani Barach Kahi" fame Neha Mahajan said working in the film was the best experience of her life because of the intensity of the character.

"It is not just period character but it has strength, determination, which you don't see these days," she said.
