If Your idea of a fabulous Sunday morning is to sweat it out and get completely lost playing games like lagori, pithu, gilli danda or hopscotch inside a lush green forest, head to the Olympiad of Forgotten Desi Games at Sanjay Gandhi National Park on February 5.

Organised by Shaala, an organisation that believes that true learning can happen with a free mind and spirit outside of four walls, the event aims to engage seekers regardless of age to push the boundaries of their imagination. "The idea is to return to our past through traditional sports, games and activities. Just a mention of these games reminds us of the summers spent playing outdoors. But will the children of this generation have similar memories to talk about as most of them spend time playing games in a virtual world? These classic Indian games a risk are on the verge of extinction," says Shailesh Awate, Co-Founder, Shaala.

Indian games have the ability to sharpen fine and gross motor skills, improve concentration, hand-eye coordination, and can instill discipline. “They help in skills and personality development. Today, our kids are deprived of these games, resulting in childhood disabilities like ADHD, and dyslexia among others. Shaala is just trying to bring back these games into the new generation. Given the time constraint, we’ll ensure that each one gets to play at least six games,” says Awate.

When: February 5
Where: Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Borivli
Entry: Rs 600 for 1 parent + 1 kid /R450 for 1 person, includes playing six games, a meal, return gift and a wealth of knowledge about these games.
