Karachi: Pakistan's national T20 captain Sarfaraz Ahmad has played down reports that he was scared of former head coach Waqar Younis and did not speak out because of his fear.

"My comments have been misconstrued and misunderstood. I just said that that I am the sort of person who is always
worried about my place in the team and that is why I don't say much," he told PTI.

"I was not referring to the specific time when Waqar Younis was our head coach. Whatever decisions he took I always respected them and accepted them in the interest of the team," he said.

The wicketkeeper batsman noted that every player is anxious about retaining his place in the team and this happens
everywhere in the cricket world.

"To portray it as if I was blaming Waqar Younis for anything is not correct is wrong. Lot of players might not
agree with some decisions taken by the team management but they accept what is a collective decision and which is in interest of the team," Sarfaraz said.

The prolific performer of the national team said that xhe has accepted as a challenge after always being dropped from the team.

"Waqar Younis during his tenure as head coach encouraged me to do better and he had a good understanding. At the end the aim is that the team does well," Sarfaraz said.

Sarfaraz said he didn't believe there was any sense of insecurity or fear in the Pakistan team and every player was ready to give his 100 per cent.

"Our team has gone through some rough times in recent matches but we are a good side and we have proven it in the
past."
