Shikhar Dhawan said patience was the key after playing a match-winning knock yesterday to help SunRisers Hyderabad topple Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here in the Pepsi Indian Premier League

Patience was key: Dhawan

The southpaw scored an unbeaten 73 as the hosts chased down Mumbai’s modest total of 129-4 with relative ease. “I knew the pitch was slow and we had to hold on to our wickets in the first six overs. Patience was going to be key and that was our plan,” the 24-year-old said. “Once we settled down, we got the boundaries that helped us win easily.”

The victory over Rohit Sharma’s side was SunRisers’ fourth win at home. Dhawan, who scored his 15th half-century in the IPL, continues his great year.

Dhawan made a sensational India Test debut, scoring a record-breaking 187 against Australia. Yesterday’s unbeaten 73 against Mumbai is also his best IPL score, bettering the 63 he scored against Chennai earlier in the tournament.u00a0
