Pune builder has narrow escape in Mumbai-Pune E-way accident, driver dies

A renowned Pune-based builder, DS Kulkarni, met with an accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Wednesday. The builder’s driver died in the accident while two others were injured.

The incident took place at near the Khanadala exist of the E-way on Wednesday around 11 pm. The deceased car driver as been identified as Neeraj Ramkaran Singh (37), a resident of Ganesh Nagar, Bhopkhel. The other injured person has been identified as Kiran Kate.


Kulkarni is a Pune-based builder and owns DSK Projects apart from an automobile four-wheeler showroom in Pune. He was rushed to Nigdi-based Lokmanya Hospital and is undergoing treatment at the ICU. Dr Jayant Shreekhande informed, “Kulkarni sustained an injury on his left side of his rib.”

According to an Expressway control room official, “Kulkarni was travelling from Mumbai to Pune in his Land Cruiser car along with driver Singh and Kate, who was in the seat next to the driver while Kulkarni was seated behind. The accident took place near Khanadala tunnel where a trailer heading from Pune to Mumbai lost control and landed in the opposite lane. Kulkarni’s car was coming out from the Khanadala exit and dashed into the trailer.”

He added, “The impact of the accident was such that Kulkarni 's driver died on spot while Kate escape with minor injuries, but Kulkarni had to be rushed to hospital.”

In a Facebook post, Kulkarni wrote, “The incident is unfortunate. I lost a dear person, who was serving as my driver for the last 22 years. I pray to God that his soul rests in peace, and will be back to work in a week’s time. I will also look for speedy trial in the accident case so that Singh get justice soon.”
