Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney's wife Coleen is reportedly urging her husband to sign up to the new 300,000 pounds-a-week, five-year contract with Old Trafford so they can keep their children close to their extended family network.

The deal worth 65 million pounds would make Rooney, who is the joint best-paid player with United team-mate Robin van Persie on 250,000 pounds-a week, the country''s best-paid footballer.

According to the Mirror, a friend of Coleen said that a key factors is that she does not want to move from the north-west of England, and this is also important for Rooney, adding that Coleen has no intention of leaving the area and the huge pay rise on the table has also certainly helped talks with the club.

The friend further said that Coleen feels it is important for their children to have all their family nearby and so she does not want to bring them up in another part of the country or abroad, adding that as she is also doing well with her fashion career, so it is important to have the family on hand to help.

The report mentioned that the couple lives in Cheshire, and Coleen''s parents live just 50 miles away in Merseyside, close to Rooney's family, and Coleen said that she and her husband would struggle without the support of their families.

Coleen and Rooney own a luxury property in Barbados where their families and friends living in the North West of England often join them on holidays, the report added.
