Rungta was close friend, says Jagmohan Dalmiya

Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Jagmohan Dalmiya was shocked to hear the news of his one-time colleague and close friend PM Rungta's demise yesterday

Rungta, who was BCCI president from 1972-73 to 1974-75, passed away following a brief illness in Mumbai. He was 84. Loving called as ‘Bhaiji’, Rungta, he was ill for the past few days and collapsed on Wednesday night. He died in the early hours of yesterday.


The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president remembered him as a friend who had great administrative qualities.


“He had great command over the game and the financial aspect of the sport. He drew respect from all,” Dalmiya told
MiD DAY.


Dalmiya choked while remembering him. “It’s a great loss for me personally as I shared a great friendship with him. His death has created a vacuum which cannot be filled easily,” Dalmiya said.

BCCI president N Srinivasan and secretary Sanjay Jagdale also mourned the death of the veteran administrator. “Mr Rungta was an individual who lived and breathed cricket. He will always be missed,” Srinivasan said in a condolence message.u00a0
