India received a big jolt to their Asia Cup campaign with Virender Sehwag returning to India due to a pulled hamstring.

Sehwag injured himself during India's chase against Pakistan on Saturday and was in severe pain during his uncharacteristic 32-ball 10 runs innings.

As per the information received, doctors have advised the opener a rest for 10 days, which means he will miss the remaining matches in the Asia Cup.

India play Sri Lanka in a dead rubber tomorrow before taking on the hosts in the final on June 24.

The doctor's report on Sehwag's injury has already reached the office of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and they immediately responded by deciding to call the India vice-captain home.

The five man national selection committee will now have a teleconference to decide over Sehwag's replacement.

In all likelihood, wicketkeeper batsman Dinesh Karthik is likely to be asked to join the team in Sri Lanka.

Sehwag's absence will be a massive blow to the team which has not performed as per expectations in recent time.

India did not make it to the second round of the World Twenty20 earlier this year and its second string side failed to make the final of the tri-series in Zimbabwe which also included Sri Lanka.

Sehwag has been one of the few consistent performers in Sri Lanka where spinners hold the key and skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni will also miss his off-spinners, which were a key in their win against Bangladesh in the ongoing tournament.

The national selectors will also be meeting on June 26 to decided the squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka that follows the Asia Cup. Sehwag is certain to be picked for the Test series as he would have recovered by the time the series starts on July 10.

But how the team rallies around Sehwag's absence will be the key to their fortunes in the Asia Cup.
