Investigations have revealed that Indrani Mukerjea plotted the murder of her daughter from her first marriage, with the help of her ex-husband from the second marriage, and the two of them strangulated the 22-year-old, burnt her body and then dumped the remains at Pen.
Murder most foul: Villagers found Sheena's body, but cops kept no record
The deceased Sheena Bora was yesterday revealed to be the daughter of Indrani Mukerjea and her first husband, Siddharth Das. Until that point, Indrani had told everyone that Sheena was her sister. Yesterday, the police picked up her second husband, Sanjeev Khanna from Kolkata for his alleged role in the murder of Sheena.

According to the police, on April 24, 2012, Indrani called up Sheena, who was working as an assistant manager with Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL). Indrani and Sanjeev picked her up in their car near National College. The car was being driven by Shyam Rai, the third accused in the case.
Police said in the car, Sanjeev and Indrani throttled Sheena’s neck with the help of the driver. They doused her body in petrol and burnt it at Pen, where they disposed the body. The half-burnt remains were then found by the local police a month later.
“The local cops of Pen got the half-burnt body on May 23, 2012. Later they disposed of the body as they could not find any missing complaint or a claimant for the body,” said Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria, in whose guidance investigations are being carried out by Khar Police Inspector Dinesh Kadam.
“Our staff has been working on the case for months. They had arrested the driver on August 21, in an arms case. He confessed to the murder and helping to dispose the body,” said Maria. “The three were arrested after their role in the murder and body’s disposal,” said a senior official from Mumbai Police.
Nakabandi delayed disposal of body
According to sources, the trio killed Sheena in the car and then drove around Mumbai looking for a spot to dump the body. However, they got scared when they encountered a nakabandi and instead drove to Indrani's Worli house (her marital home with current husband Peter).
There, they parked the car, with the body, inside the garage and only took it out the next day. They bought a bag, stuffed the body in it, bought petrol to burn it with and then drove out to Pen, where they eventually disposed of Sheena's remains.
