Lasith Malinga grabbed three wickets off five deliveries to hand Sri Lanka a crushing 97-run win over New Zealand in a tri-series match here yesterday.
The speedster finished with a career-best 4-28 as New Zealand were dismissed for 119 chasing a 217-run target on a slow pitch in the day-night match.
Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara was all praise for his pacemen. "Thilan Thushara, Nuwan Kulasekara and Lasith Malinga have taken over the responsibility of putting in matchwinning performances day in and day out which is good for us," Sangakkara said.
Man-of-the-match Thilan Samaraweera earlier scored his maiden one-day century (104) to help Sri Lanka post a decent total. Then, Malinga bowled opener Brendon McCullum with the second ball of his fourth over, had Jacob Oram caught-behind and bowled Nathan McCullum with the last two deliveries to send the tourists reeling at 41-6.
