Potatoes: One of the most easily available vegetables, potatoes are excellent for heart. Its rich potassium content helps lower blood pressure and rich fibre content helps lower the risk of heart disease. As long as potatoes are not deep fried, they can be your heart’s best friend.


Tomatoes: Excellent in vitamin C, A, lycopene, fibre and potassium, tomatoes help get rid of bad cholesterol. Also, tomatoes keep blood vessels open and reduce the chance of heart disease. Tomatoes can be consumed daily without fear because they are low on salt and sugar. Both raw and cooked tomatoes are equally advisable for a healthy heart.

Oatmeals

Oatmeal: Its rich fibre content helps lower bad cholesterol. Rather than eating instant oatmeal, prefer eating it in cooked form. Consuming other whole grains like pasta, bread and barley not only keeps heart healthy, but also tends to keep you lean yet fit.

Raisins: Research shows that antioxidants in raisins prevent gum inflammation or other types of gum diseases. As people with gum diseases are more prone to heart problems, eating raisins can be highly beneficial for them.

Nuts: Packed with vitamins, fibre, minerals, heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and low saturated fats, this easily available super food is excellent for heart. Walnuts, pecans, almonds, hazelnuts, pistachios and peanuts should be eaten daily in right portion. It keeps you lean and your heart strong.

Pomegranates

Fruits: Apples, pomegranate, bananas, all are rich in heart friendly compounds. Adding these fruits in equal portions in your daily diet can actually fight the risk of heart diseases. Though these can be consumed in the form of juice or shake, but eating raw is always preferable.

Green tea: This super drink is not only fashion statement, but also a powerful agent for a healthy heart. Rather than avid drinking, consume three to four glasses of green tea a day. Antioxidants called catechins present in green tea is responsible for this effect.

Dark chocolate: Studies found that people who consume dark chocolate are less prone to stroke, heart attacks and high blood pressure. Thanks to flavonoids called polyphenols present in dark chocolates! Milk chocolates on the other hand can be a great enemy to your heart.

Coffee: This is one of the biggest promoters of a healthy heart. Two cups of coffee every day can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is good if you already have a fascination towards coffee, but remember excess drinking can be bad.

Red wine: Polyphenol called resveratrol in red wine gives this beverage an additional benefit. Red wine intake in small amounts is believed to be good for heart. However, we do not encourage you with binge drinking.
