There is no need to educate Indian umpires, says BCCI
Former Indian cricket board secretary Niranjan Shah, who is chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) umpire’s sub-committee, felt there is no need for the Board to talk to their umpires about the possibility of them being lured into indulging in sinister activities.
Cricket has been hit by a sting operation conducted by an Indian television channel that showed umpires from Pakistan and Sri Lanka being open to fixing matches for cash in the just-concluded World Twenty20 event in the Emerald Isles and the Sri Lanka Premier League.

The International Cricket Council has launched an “urgent investigation” into the claims made by the channel.
Will the BCCI be speaking to the umpires on the lurking dangers, Shah was asked. “No they should understand from the various newspaper reports. They have to be careful.
“If an umpire falls into a trap, he is in trouble especially if he is a loud mouth,” said Shah, a senior member of the Board.
He added: “I don’t think a separate chat is necessary. Every umpire is responsible and when the question of match-fixing comes up, it is very obvious that they should not fall for such things. They need not be educated since integrity is the first requirement of umpires.”u00a0
