The Mumbai Crime Branch arrested three shooters from the notorious Ravi Pujari gang, who were involved in a shootout in a Nashik builder's office, on Saturday. They trio were arrested from Kurla (E), where they were out to commit a murder. The three arrested are Sanjay Thapa, who hails from Nepal, Arvind Chavan from Ulhasnagar, Mumbai and Vikas Ping from Bihar. A fourth person involved with the crime, Thapa's brother Santosh Thapa died on March 5 in Mumbai, after getting into a bike accident. Two revolvers and 10 rounds of ammunition have been recovered from them, while the weapons used in the Nashik firing have been discarded.

According to Joint Commissioner (Crime) Himanshu Roy, the three were involved in the February 25 shootout in the Ekta Builders' office in Nashik. Back then, two men had barged into the Ekta Builders office in Nashik and shot at two staff members, injuring them seriously, before fleeing on a bike. The victims were Devika and Ranjeet Shahikant, the receptionist and cashier in the office respectively. According to reports, the owner of Ekta Builders, Ashok Mohanani, had an old conflict with Pujari.

Commenting on the manner in which the three worked, Roy claimed that the three did not know each other. They apparently only knew where they were to be picked up from and a code word. On reaching the spot, they would have to utter the code word to the driver, who would then drive them to where the murder was to be committed. "Thapa, Ping and Chavan were arrested today from Kurla (E), near the station. They did not know each other, but had a code word, using which they were picked from a particular spot. Chavan was the driver, while Thapa and Ping were the shooters," said Roy, adding that further investigation were on.
