Mhambrey, who coached Baroda between 2007 and 2010, cited his full time commitment with Indian Premier League side Mumbai Indians as the reason for it. He however clarified that the Mumbai Cricket Association has not approached him yet. "I really don't know what's going on.

I haven't got any offer from the MCA as yet. I haven't really thought about coaching Mumbai," Mhambrey said, adding: "I am committed full time to the Mumbai Indians. So, I don't think I can take up this (Mumbai coaching) job if it does come my way. My availability will be a problem," Mhambrey told MiD DAY yesterday.

MCA's Cricket Improvement Committee will meet today to discuss the appointment of coaches, selectors and support staff.

Sources indicated that former India pacer Balwinder Singh Sandhu, also a CIC member, could be the other preferred choice.

"Sandhu is definitely the most sought after from the list of candidates (Sanjay Bangar, Nilesh Kulkarni, Zubin Bharucha, Zulfiqar Parkar, Sandeep Dahad and Sulakshan Kulkarni) we have received. His past experience with Mumbai would be a big plus."

Sandhu coached Mumbai in 1996-97 and 1997-98 during which they regained the Ranji Trophy title. In 2001, the Maharashtra Cricket Association appointed him as coach. In the same year was head coach of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore as Head Coach.
