'What is your opinion about the ayurvedic herbal sex tonics'
Clinical sexologist Dr Prakash Kothari and Counseling Psychologist Rachna Kothari answer your sex-related queries
Q. What is your opinion about the ayurvedic herbal sex tonics sold over the counter?
— Over the counter
A. They cannot be effective because they violate the basic principles of Ayurveda. In my opinion, it is a picture of the horse or bull that works and not the tablet itself! If we have to sum up in a sentence, “It is the exploitation of the desperate by the ignorant!”
Q. I am a 32-year-old man, my height is 5.5 feet and my weight is 105 kg. I am planning to get engaged. With great difficulty my parents have been able to organize for a girl who is also obese. I am little worried about my obesity interfering with my sexual performance. My marriage depends only upon your expert advice! Please help.
A. Strictly speaking, obesity per se does not affect the desire of an individual. However, desire of an individual may be indirectly affected if physical appearance like a large belly or flabby fats is a turn off for them. Obesity may hamper the performance by its mechanical interference as the movement becomes restricted because of the excess weight. Direct penetration may become difficult if the partner is also obese. Sage Vatsyayana, the author of Kamasutra has advocated ‘Aibh Asana’ (elephant position), useful in such situations. In this position, a woman kneels on all four limbs, lowers her head and arms and rests them on the floor, then raises her back and buttocks. This helps a man to penetrate her vagina from the rear comfortably, in spite of his large pot belly.
