Backers Ashok Chavan and Suresh Kalmadi out of favour with Congress top brass, Ramesh Bagwe may get the boot soon, say political analysts

With Suresh Kalmadi and Ashok Chavan being shown the door from their respective posts, what will happen to Minister of State for home Ramesh Bagwe is a question that remains to be answered.

After the change in the political scenario, political analysts sense trouble for Bagwe, the Pune man who was selected for the post by outgoing CM Ashok Chavan. Bagwe is also known to be the close associate of Suresh Kalmadi, the Congress MP from the city.

Bagwe's trouble increased after Kalmadi's resignation was accepted.

He had a rocky relationship with the city police throughout his tenure. It started when he complained about the city police not providing him with a pilot car. Bagwe was also embroiled in another controversy when the city police put his passport on hold because 19 cases were registered against him. During the budget session of the Assembly last month, when MLAs demanded action because of the growing crime cases in Pune, Bagwe announced the transfer of Satyapal Singh, Commissioner of Police.

He was embarrassed when Home Minister R R Patil clarified that the government had not taken any such
decision.

A former Congress MLA from Pune said, "Party high command chose Bagwe by keeping us aside by giving him a chance to be the Minister of State for Home. But it is highly unlikely that he will
continue."

He was subsequently elected as the Leader of the House in the civic body. In 2004, he became was an elected MLA from Parvati constituency, a seat reserved for the SCs. After the delimitation he was elected from Pune Cantonment.

Senior Congressmen from Pune who were not happy with Bagwe's selection as Minister of State for Home are believed to be working overtime to make sure that he is not selected again.
