International Cricket Council chief Haroon Lorgat will this week call for Danish Kaneria's lifetime ban for spot-fixing to be recognised across the cricket world.

Will ICC ban Kaneria for life?

An England and Wales Cricket Board Disciplinary Panel on Friday found the former Pakistan leg-spinner guilty of “cajoling and pressurising” former Essex team-mate Mervyn Westfield into accepting cash in return for trying to concede a set number of runs in an over during a Pro 40 match in 2009.

In a damning verdict the ECB panel also described Kaneria, who has indicated his intention to appeal after maintaining his innocence, as a “grave danger” to the sport.u00a0Despite the panel’s ruling, however, it is unclear whether Kaneria’s ban will be enforceable outside of the ECB’s jurisdiction of England and Wales.

PA Sport understands the cricket boards of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are not presently obliged to fall in line with the ban as they are yet to sign an understanding among the ICC’s full-member nations that domestic sanctions for match-fixing would be recognised within their borders.

Meanwhile, Kaneria said he will appeal the lifetime ban, “I’m very upset about this decision. For what reason they have convicted me I do not know. I will definitely be doing an appeal,” he told Sky Sports News.
