Promises vanish into thin air

Two years after promising a man reimbursement, Kingfisher backtracks

The Other Side

Kingfisher spokesperson Prakash Mirpuri said, "I will examine all the aspects of the case. All the needful will be done. Until then I cannot comment upon the matter."

After almost two years, and around 140 requests made to Kingfisher Airlines, Manoj Kumar Sharma (32), who was earlier promised that he would be reimbursed for a cancelled flight, has now been clearly told that the airline will not be able to do so.

Sharma, a Mumbai-based businessman boarded his flight from Mumbai to Delhi on April 16, 2008, and would have taken the Kingfisher flight DN-551 at 13.45 for Dharamshala from Delhi airport. In Delhi, he was told that the connecting flight was cancelled, but since his ticket mentioned that he would get a reimbursement in the next few days, he was not worried.

"I was told that I would be reimbursed within a few days. The current email says that the validity period is over. They say that the reimbursement can only be collected within a time-frame of three months from the date of cancellation, and I want to ask them why had they made a false promise earlier," Sharma added.

The E-Mails...

E-mail on Nov 14, 2008 (after 8 months of the journey)
The airline had clearly said that a reimbursement would be made. "We acknowledge your concern pertaining to your refund against ticket # 7071431. Our systems are currently being upgraded, due to which there has been a delay. We request you to provide details which will enable us to process your refund on top priority."

E-mail to Sharma on March 9, 2010
"We are unable to process refunds, since data cannot be validated. While we appreciate your sentiments, we thereby regret our inability to comply with your request for refunds, and assure you no discourtesy is intended. We apologise for any disappointment caused, and hope you will give us the opportunity to welcome you on board Kingfisher Airlines."

Sharma plans to approach the judiciary if the airline fails to keep  its promise, "I will move the court if the airline fails to make the reimbursement," Sharma concluded.
