Akshay Kumar had earlier mentioned that it would be an intimate affair — a lunch or dinner date — with his immediate family, including wife Twinkle Khanna and their kids, Aarav and Nitara
It was later learnt that Akshay Kumar has planned a four-day trip to the Swiss Alps to celebrate his 50th birthday
But before he embarks on the birthday trip, he will have a puja at his Mumbai home and spend some time with his mother Aruna Bhatia, sister Alka, mother-in-law Dimple Kapadia and sister-in-law Rinke Khanna-Saran
Akshay Kumar says after his National Award win, wife Twinkle Khanna stopped taunting him about not winning awards. He won the Best Actor title for Rustom (2016) at the 64th National Film Awards
"My wife would taunt me that all her family members [she is late actor Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia's daughter] had won several awards. The taunting stopped when I bagged the National Award," Akshay Kumar said
He turns 50, but Akshay Kumar manages to look ageless on screen with actresses Bhumi Pednekar and Anushka Sharma, who are in their 20s
The Bollywood star says the secret lies in living a simple, easy and happy life
"I have only one job in my life, and that's to do films. Then I take care of my family and workout. There's no stress... I don't take too much stress. I concentrate on happiness and I exercise, take care of what I eat, and I control my intake of sweets. There's no science behind it. Live a simple, easy life," Akshay Kumar told the media
"When I used to stay in Chandni Chowk, we used to have a one bedroom house and around 22 people used to stay in it. But we used to feel happy in it. We have continued living with that happiness," said Akshay Kumar, who is one of the most bankable actors in Bollywood today
Asked if after 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha', he will make more movies related to PM Modi's various initiatives, Akshay Kumar said: "I have made the film because I liked the script and not because anyone asked me to make this film. It's a different thing that when our PM came to office, he started spreading the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan message. This film is similar to his Abhiyaan and takes forward the Clean India message."
"But in general, Clean India is not a topic that he started... It's a topic relevant to each one of us... We have to keep our surroundings clean because it is directly related to us and our health. It's wrong if people think it's a village-based problem. Even cities have a lot to do with this problem," said Akshay Kumar
With a National Award in his kitty, Akshay Kumar has catapulted to dizzying heights of success in the past few years
Akshay Kumar who unlike his peers, has multiple releases every year, has made sure his 'Khiladi' days are behind him
Akshay Kumar, has now dwelled into the content-backed commercial territory. His films, be it 'Airlift', 'Baby', or 'Jolly LLB 2', were commercial, yet had powerful content
This has prompted strong rumours in the Delhi political circles that Akshay Kumar will play the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an upcoming film
So far, there have been no official confirmations, but it should be interesting to see Akshay Kumar play one of the most admired and popular political figures in the world
Akshay Kumar may not exactly be a style icon for men, but by his own admission, he feels happy when people call him fashionable
"If they don't, I would like to believe so anyway," Akshay Kumar jokes when mid-day met him backstage, minutes before he walked the ramp for a fashion week in Bangalore
He credits his "beautiful wife", actress-turned-author and film producer Twinkle Khanna for his evolved sartorial sense
"My mother-in-law [veteran actress Dimple Kapadia] is a style icon and wouldn't have me any other way. I have no option but match up to the ladies in the family. When my house was being made, my only contribution was to say nothing. And it looks pretty damn good," says Akshay Kumar
"The same way, when she tells me what to wear, whether it's by bullying or not, I just follow her instructions," Akshay Kumar says with a chuckle
Is he worried that Twinkle Khanna might call all the shots even for their upcoming film, 'Padman', which marks her debut as producer?
Shaking his head, Akshay Kumar says, "She hardly comes for the shoot. She is allowing the director [R Balki] to take charge of the material exactly they way he wants. Since she was a part of the industry and has seen her parents at work, a film set is the last place she wants to be. She hates it."
But that's not to say that Twinkle Khanna isn't a hands-on producer. "When the script was in the works, she was clued in to every step of research. But if my wife wasn't producing the film, I'd have still done the film," says Akshay Kumar
Great efforts are being put in, he says, to keep the story of 'Padman', based on India's Menstrual Man Arunachalam Murugunatham, as real as possible
Akshay Kumar currently has eight films on hand! We bet fans can't wait to catch em' all
