In the early days of Indian democracy, elections were conducted using traditional paper ballots. But in a bid to modernize the electoral process and enhance efficiency, a significant transition took place – the introduction of Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs. Let's take a look into how the transition from paper ballots to EVMs in Lok Sabha elections took place. Before the advent of EVMs, voters cast their votes by marking their choices on paper ballots. These ballots were then placed in sealed ballot boxes. Counting paper ballots was a time-consuming process, often requiring days or even weeks to tally the votes accurately. Additionally, there were concerns about ballot stuffing, tampering, and errors in counting. So to curb the issue, electronic Voting Machines, the game-changer in the world of elections, came into the picture.

The pre-wedding ceremony of Anant Ambani and fiancee Radhika Merchant started with Anna Seva on 28th February in Gujarat's Jamnagar. Mukesh Ambani, Anant Ambani and other members of the Ambani family, along with Radhika Merchant, served traditional Gujarati food to the villagers. Radhika's maternal grandmother and parents - Viren and Shaila Merchant also took part in the 'anna seva'. The food is to be served to about 51,000 local residents and the practice will continue for the next few days. The Ministry of Home Affairs on Jan 29 extended the ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India. The Central Government banned SIMI for another five years as an 'unlawful association' under the UAPA. Ministry of Home Affairs took action by exercising the powers conferred by the provisions of UAPA. MHA had declared SIMI as unlawful association on Sept 27, 2001, and it later kept on extending the ban. SIMI “continuing to be involved in fomenting terrorism, disturbing peace, communal harmony in India”. Many criminal cases have been registered against SIMI and its members under various sections of IPC. Home Minister Amit Shah said that SIMI ban is part of PM Modi Government's 'zero tolerance' policy.

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri announced a new oil discovery in the country. Hardeep Singh Puri said that the first oil was extracted yesterday 30 kilometres off the coast of Kakinada in the Krishna Godavari Basin. Hardeep Singh Puri said, “30 kilometres off the coast of Kakinada in the Krishna Godavari Basin, the first oil was extracted yesterday. Work started on this in 2016-17, then there were some delays due to COVID, but I'm sure that out of the 26 wells there, 4 wells are already operational. We will not only have gas also in a very short period but by May and June, we hope to be able to produce 45,000 barrels per day, which will be 7 per cent of our total crude oil production and 7 per cent of our gas production.” Narendra Taneja said, “This is a huge step. They first conduced a search operation in deep sea near Krishna-Godavari Basin and then started production. We have now started 47,000 barrels of ONGC production from there. In future, it will be 75000 barrels.” The place where the oil is extracted is 30 kilometres off the coast of Kakinada in the Krishna Godavari basin. Phase 3, leading to peak oil and gas production from the basin, is already underway and likely to be over in June 2024. The 98/2 project is likely to increase Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC)'s total Oil and Gas production by 11 per cent and 15 per cent respectively. India, the world's third-biggest oil importer and consumer, is dependent on crude oil from various sources in the global market to meet its domestic demand.
