Bharatiya Janata Party on March 30 released its 8th list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The list included 6 candidates from Punjab out of the total 13 Lok Sabha seats of the state. BJP has fielded three turncoats from Congress and AAP who were already holding the parliament seats. Ravneet Singh Bittu, who recently switched from Congress, will contest elections from Ludhiana. For Jalandhar, BJP chose former AAP Lok Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Rinku, who recently joined hands with the saffron party. Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh’s wife and former Congress MP Preneet Kaur has been fielded from Patiala. Preneet Kaur joined BJP on March 14 in the presence of National General Secretary Vinod Tawde, leader Tarun Chugh, and Sunil Jhakhar. Former Indian Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been fielded from Amritsar. Famous singer Hans Raj Hans, who is the North West Delhi MP in the outgoing 17th Lok Sabha, has been fielded from Faridkot. Actor Sunny Deol has been dropped from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency and has been replaced by Dinesh Singh “Babbu”.

The candidates of the UP Police constable exam danced in joy as the exam was cancelled by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Hundreds of candidates danced, celebrated in Lucknow. Some even thanked Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for cancelling the exam. Some of the candidates were protesting at Eco Garden after reports of paper leak. On February 24, CM Yogi took to X and informed about the exam cancellation.

On December 8, 2023, Russian Prez Vladimir Putin confirmed that he will be running for the presidential polls for a fifth term. Vladimir Putin's current presidential term expires on May 7 of next year and the next presidential election is slated for March 17, 2024. Putin served as the Russian President from 2000 to 2008 and has been holding the post since 2012 in two successive terms. Putin also served as the Russian Prime Minister from 2008 to 2012. A constitutional amendment in 2021 allows Putin to run for two more six-year terms and possibly stay in power till 2036, which will make him the longest-serving Russian leader surpassing Joseph Stalin. Activist Arvind Kejriwal is launching his political party in Delhi today, a decision which led to a parting of ways with his mentor, Anna Hazare. Many among the 500 supporters who gathered with Mr Kejriwal this morning at an open space near Constitution Club today asked if Anna would be joining them. He won't.
