Sandeshkhali Horror: Mithun Chakraborty, Minister Pratima express anger

On the Sandeshkhali horror, veteran actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty expressed his anguish over the incident. Union Minister of State of Social Justice Pratima Bhoumik on February 18 attacked West Bengal Chief Minister saying that Mamata Banerjee has made thousands of ‘Sandeshkhali’ in West Bengal. Speaking to ANI, she said, “Sandeshkhali is just one but Mamata Banerjee has made thousands of 'Sandeshkhali' in West Bengal. Women of Sandeshkhali have courageously shown the exploitation they're facing. We also tried to go there but were allowed only till Rampur then stopped. West Bengal police are working as TMC cadres. The situation in Sandeshkahali isn't good. I want to assure them (women of Sandeshkhali) that we are with you and they don't need to fear. We’ll submit the report tomorrow.”

Sandeshkhali Horror: TMC'S Shibu Hazra accused of sexual harassment arrested

Amid the political storm in West Bengal that has erupted over the Sandeshkhali horror case, a major breakthrough has been achieved as the accused Shibu Hazra was arrested on Feb 17 from Basirhat. According to police, as many as 18 people have been arrested in the case so far. Notably, agitated villagers set fire to a poultry farm belonging to TMC leader Shivprasad Hazra. Residents claimed that Hazra took over their land against their will, leading to their agitation. Political storm broke out following the incident provoking to and fro allegations from state and national parties. The poor local women have narrated tales of horror of women being raped for years by leaders of Mamata Banerjee’s party Trinamool Congress and their henchmen in TMC’s party office.

Sandeshkhali Horror: 6-member committee formed by BJP to inquire cases

After violence broke out in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali, BJP formed a six-member committee of Union Ministers, MPs. Committee members will visit Sandeshkhali and collect information about the alleged sexual harassment, violence against women. Tension simmered in the Sandeshkhali area of North 24 Parganas district's Basirhat subdivision on Feb 13. BJP workers led by state party president Sukanta Majumdar protested against the alleged sexual harassment of women. Local women have been agitating over atrocities committed against them allegedly by TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh. Majumdar sustained injuries during the police lathicharge as a scuffle broke out between the police and party workers. On Feb 14, WB Governor, LOP Suvendu Adhikari reached Apollo Hospital to enquire about Sukanta Majumdar's health. The administration has imposed Sector 144 of CrPC in the area till February 19 to maintain law and order amid the ongoing tensions due to Sandeshkhali horror.

Uniform Civil Code: UCC approved by Uttarakhand state cabinet

Pushkar Singh Dhami-led Uttarakhand government has taken big step to implement the Uniform Civil Code. In a landmark decision, the Uttarakhand cabinet approved a draft report related to UCC on February 04. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the UCC bill will be tabled in the upcoming Assembly session. The Uniform Civil Code proposes uniform civil laws for all communities in the state of Uttarakhand. If implemented, Uttarakhand will become the first Indian state to adopt UCC after independence. UCC will provide a legal framework for uniform marriage, divorce, land for all citizens, irrespective of their religion. The passage of UCC bill will mark fulfillment of a major poll promise made by BJP to the people of the state.

INDIA Alliance Coordination Committee meeting ended at NCP Leader Sharad Pawar’s residence in New Delhi on September 13. The 14-member panel discussed a variety of issues including the seat sharing and campaign strategy for the 2024 general elections. The alliance decided that it will soon kick start joint public meetings across India, beginning from Bhopal in the first week of October. BJP attacks INDIA bloc, calls it 'Anti-Hindu Coordination Committee'

BJP conducted a press conference in New Delhi on September 13, where party spokesperson Sambit Patra slammed the INDIA bloc, referring to it as the ‘AHCC’ (Anti-Hindu Coordination Committee). Further, he commented on the meeting called by the INDIA bloc on September 13 at Sharad Pawar's residence in New Delhi, claiming that there is no cooperation and coordination among the alliance's members and that the agenda of the meeting is to discuss various ways to abolish Hinduism. Furthermore, he chastised the alliance's leaders for equating Hinduism with illnesses like Corona, leprosy, and AIDS and labeling it a global threat. “Today (AHCC) Anti-Hindu Coordination Committee meeting is called in Mumbai at Sharad Pawar's home. They will also discuss seat sharing. But before the coordination, the non-coordination and non-cooperation has started... This is not a meeting of campaign or seat sharing... Their only aim is to abolish Hinduism... The meeting is on the same topic... They called Hinduism dengue and malaria, corona, leprosy, and AIDS. They compare Hinduism with such diseases. They called it a world menace”, said Sambit Patra.
