Lok Sabha proceedings on Tuesday began in the new Parliament building, located adjacent to the old one, starting a new chapter in the parliamentary history of India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who walked down from the old building along with Union Ministers including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and other leaders, was present on the occasion. Initiating the first day of the proceedings, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged on members to set a new standard of parliamentary debate by raising people's issues, as he extended greetings of Ganesh Chaturthi, and called the move to the new parliament house a historic event.

Stating that the Congress “most certainly” wants to participate in the upcoming session, Sonia listed out some “matters of public concern and importance” that she hoped would be discussed. In a press conference, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said this is the first time that no agenda has been discussed or listed in the business of the House. However, he added that the INDIA bloc is ready to attend the discussion and they will not boycott it. Meanwhile, an official dinner invite to G20 delegates from the Rashtrapati Bhawan surfaced on Tuesday, which sparked controversy. The invite had 'President of Bharat' written on it instead of the usual 'President of India'. The INDIA bloc has been opposing this renaming and have slammed the government for this step.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishanaw among others were seen arriving for the meeting that began at 9:30 am. The meeting had been convened to discuss crucial organizational matters with party MPs. Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned on July 24 amidst uproarious scenes with the Opposition demanding a statement by the prime minister on the violence in Manipur. The first two days of last week's monsoon session saw a similar ruckus leading to nearly zero functioning of Parliament.
