If you're noticing more hair than usual on your comb while combing, then you're not alone. A great number of Indian youths are experiencing extensive hair fall, which often lead to hair thinning or receding hairline. Gone are the days when genetics was the only reason for hair fall. Today, things have become far more critical when it comes to the reasons for significant increase in hair loss in Indian youth. Hair thinning not only impacts one's look, but also impacts their overall life. More often than not, hair thinning is accompanied by a noticeable dip in confidence. Doctors warn stress, poor diet and pollution are the major contributor to the early hair loss in Indian youth. To discuss the same, we met Dr. Roshan Singh. Dr. Roshan Singh is the Medical Director at Neoaesthetica Hair Transplant Clinic in Lucknow, one of the most renowned hair transplant clinics in India. We had an in-depth conversation with Dr. Roshan, who shared several key factors triggering early hair loss among young people in India. Keep reading for the insights.

Stress, Poor Diet & Pollution - The Three Main Reasons Taking a Toll

Speaking about the factors, Dr. Roshan said, "Genetics do play a role; however, stress, pollution and poor diet are all quietly making things worse for people in India. We are living in an era of constant pressure, which leads to stress (in some cases chronic stress). I sometimes wonder how stress has become a normal part of our day-to-day life. Life today moves fast. Work pressure, studies, social expectations and constant screen time are all taking a toll on both our overall health and hair. Prolonged stress makes your body react in different ways, and hair fall is one of the most common ways it manifests. Stress for a longer duration push your hair into a "telogen phase" (or resting phase), leading to significant hair loss. The irony is most people ignore stress until it starts showing physically and sadly hair loss is often one of the first signs."

He further added, "What you eat and when you eat also impact your hair growth. "Ordering in" is a new norm now. Research suggests that over 40% of Indian youth depend on food delivery and eating-out services-a remarkably high figure. Of course, it is convenient to order food but most of the time they forget that eating outside food on a regular basis is taking toll on their hair. Outside food does not include essential nutrients like protein, iron and vitamins, which are mandatory for hair growth. Without proper nutrients, your hair becomes weak, brittle and more prone to falling out. Moreover, the time people are consuming meals is not fixed. I am not saying that Indian youth should stop eating out, but they need to make sure that their body is getting essential nutrients each day."

He went on to add, "Pollution is yet another major reason that is triggering early hair loss in Indian youth. In this age, most young Indians are living in metro and cosmopolitan cities for work, higher studies and other pursuits. Almost every big city in India is grappling with high levels of pollution. Dust, smoke and harmful particles settle on your scalp and hair, which makes them dry, brittle and damaged. More so, exposure to pollution for a longer duration can even clog hair follicles and weaken the roots. This not only causes hair fall but also negatively impacts hair growth. Of course, you cannot just leave the city to avoid pollution, but you can always ensure best practices to improve your hair health."

In the end, Dr. Roshan said that with small changes Indian youth can make a big difference in life. He suggested that people should manage stress with meditation, eat a healthy and balanced diet (it would be great if you cook your own meals), avoid junk food and try keeping your scalp clean. According to Dr. Roshan just by making a few small changes in your life, you can improve your hair growth and get rid of hair fall. Besides that, you can consider consulting a doctor. Experienced doctors at trusted hair transplant clinics can identify the root cause of your hair loss and help you with the most effective treatment plan.
