Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) on Thursday announced a Rs 1 per kg hike in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices in and around Mumbai, citing higher input costs amid the West Asia crisis that has disrupted the global energy supplies.
Following the rate hike, the revised price of CNG will be 89 per kg in and around Mumbai. The revised rates came into effect from midnight of September 30, 2026 and morning of October 1, 2026, MGL said in a statement.
According to the company, the ongoing crisis in the Middle East has resulted in a significant increase in prices of domestically produced and imported Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG).
It added that there is a significant demand in CNG and a major portion of input gas for the CNG segment is being met through imported RLNG.
"The above factors have resulted in a considerable increase in input gas cost for CNG segment. The increase in input gas prices has significantly impacted the overall cost of gas supplied by the company. In order to partially offset the rising cost of input gas and ensure the continued and sustained supply of CNG to its customers, MGL has decided to increase CNG prices by 1 per Kg in Mumbai and adjacent areas," it said.
Noting that the CNG is a cleaner fuel alternative, MGL said it continues to explore avenues to optimise costs and pass on benefits to consumers.
The move is likely to impact taxi drivers, auto-rickshaw operators, and commercial vehicle owners who rely heavily on CNG as an affordable fuel option.
The company claims to meet the fuel requirements of over 1.3 million vehicles running on CNG through a network of over 500 CNG stations in its geographical areas of Mumbai, Thane, Raigarh, Ratnagiri, Latur & Dharashiv and Chitradurga & Davangere.
Earlier on Thursday, the state-owned oil companies, citing the higher crude oil prices amid the US-Iran conflict, increased prices of ATF by Rs 16 and the prices of commercial LPG by Rs 62.50 per 19-kg cylinder.
ATF prices were increased to Rs 137 per litre from Rs 121 for domestic airlines. The commercial LPG rates were hiked by Rs 62.59 per 19-kg cylinder, following the hike of Rs 9.50 per 19-kg cylinder in September.
However, prices of domestic LPG, used by households, were left unchanged at Rs 942 per 14.2-kg cylinder.
