Sale season usually means billboards, banners and digital screens fighting for attention. Flipkart and Philips have taken a rather different route, putting their Big Billion Days message underwater at Gorai.
The unusual outdoor installation features the campaign's "Soooooo Good Deals" messaging beneath the water revealed during low tide, turning a familiar sale advertisement into something that needs to be discovered rather than simply passed by.
The placement has also caught the attention of photographers, with one photographer heading to Gorai to capture the underwater billboard and documenting it from an unexpected perspective. The resulting photograph gives the activation another life beyond its physical location, as the unusual image itself becomes something worth stopping for.
There is a certain logic to taking a sale message underwater. With brands competing for attention across Mumbai during the festive shopping season, simply putting another advertisement on a roadside billboard can easily become part of the background. An underwater installation, on the other hand, creates a very different kind of visual interruption.
The Flipkart and Philips collaboration also brings together two familiar parts of the shopping experience: Flipkart's sale moment and Philips' consumer products. Rather than presenting them through a conventional product focused display, the brands have used the setting itself to create curiosity around the message.
