India supplement market.
The dietary supplement market in India has tripled in three years and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 13.9% from 2025 to 2030, according to the Ministry of Food Processing Industries. Behind this growth is a fundamental shift in who's buying.
For years, "supplements" in India meant protein powders, a category dominated by athletes, gym-goers, and bodybuilders chasing muscle mass and performance. That has changed, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. Rising health awareness and the growing burden of chronic conditions like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease have pushed a much broader set of buyers across age groups and genders toward preventive healthcare. Many who once limited themselves to medicinal purchases are now buying supplements to maintain energy, correct deficiencies, slow the premature effects of aging and reduce long-term health risk.
The Vitamin & Mineral Segment
Vitamins and minerals now hold the largest share of India's supplement market, according to the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, and are expected to grow considerably. This is primarily driven by demand for immune support and general health. Buyers are particularly seeking vitamins C, D, and B12, as well as minerals such as calcium and iron, which support energy levels, immunity, bone health, and cognitive function.
Two groups are driving this segment: women, who need additional nutrients during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and menopause, and the elderly, who are more prone to deficiencies due to poor dietary intake, gastrointestinal issues, or age-related decline. With the global elderly population projected to reach 2.1 billion by 2050, this group is expected to remain the largest driver of growth in this segment. Additionally, patients managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, kidney or liver issues, are often on restrictive diets or multiple medications and may require supplementation, making them a third source of steady demand.
This has pushed manufacturers toward innovative products and accessible delivery formats such as gummies, sprays, and chewable gums. However, the bigger shift has come from e-commerce.
Tata 1mg Leading the Charge
Online pharmacy platforms have reshaped how Indians buy medication, offering wide assortment, ingredient transparency, and home delivery, and that convenience has carried over to supplements. The pull is pharmacist-verified authenticity over influencer-curated variety.
Platforms such as Tata 1mg offer a comprehensive range of Vitamins, Minerals, Supplements. For example, Vitamin D3 supplements are available across a range of strengths, including lower-dose daily supplements for maintenance and 60,000 IU formulations commonly prescribed to correct deficiency under medical supervision. Products such as Shelcal 500 also combine calcium with Vitamin D3 when both nutrients need to be supplemented. The Vitamin B12 portfolio similarly includes different formulations such as methylcobalamin and cyanocobalamin, as well as sublingual options for consumers with varying needs. Their supplement range reflects how the category is becoming more clinically focused with products designed to address different stages and types of deficiency.
By making pharmacy-verified supplements across categories accessible in one place, Tata 1mg is becoming a trusted platform that helps Indians discover and choose the right nutritional supplements for their needs. Further, the company applies the same authenticity audit to supplements that it does to all other medicines sold on the platform. These include source verification, batch-level traceability, temperature control as needed, pharmacist verification, and detailed documentation, meeting buyers' demand for credibility over sheer catalog size.
Tata 1mg has also introduced differentiated formulations in its own Tata 1mg branded supplement catalog. Its Vegetarian Omega-3 DHA supplements provide vegetarian Indians with a fish-free option, while its sublingual vitamin sprays bypass digestion for users with gastrointestinal absorption issues.
Tata 1mg also provides an integrated healthcare ecosystem where diagnostic services, doctor consultations, and supplement options are available on the same platform, making the shift from health awareness to action considerably more seamless for the buyer.
