Kissa Shuru Talkies
A transformative chapter in India's entertainment landscape unfolded with the launch of Kissa Shuru Talkies - Home Cinema, the country's first same-day theatrical distribution platform designed exclusively for rural Maharashtra. The initiative aims to bring cinematic experiences directly into homes across 41,000 villages, 150+ talukas, and over two crore households - regions in Maharashtra, that have long remained untouched by traditional cinema infrastructure.
The formal inauguration was led by Hon'ble Shri Ashish Shelar, Minister for Information Technology and Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra, with Shri Sachin Pilgaonkar, leading Film personality, gracing the occasion as Guest of Honour. Kissa Shuru Talkies Home Cinema bridges the gap between urban multiplexes and rural audiences by enabling same-day access to theatrical releases through a secure, digital distribution network. This innovation not only democratizes entertainment but also opens new avenues for filmmakers and producers to reach millions of untapped viewers.
On this occasion, Shri Ashish Shelar, Minister of Information Technology and Cultural Affairs, Government of Maharashtra, said :
"This technological experiment is a game-changer for Marathi cinema. It bridges the gap for viewers in towns and villages who want to watch new movies right upon release, creating a win-win ecosystem where audiences, directors and actors all benefit together."
Hosted by Suntosh S. Berajdar (Co-Founder & MD), Abhishek Pramod Jathar (CEO), and Shirish G. Shinde (Co-Founder & Technical Director), the launch marks a milestone in Maharashtra's cultural and technological evolution bringing stories, emotions and cinematic magic to every household.
"Cinema has always been a collective experience, but millions of families in rural Maharashtra have been excluded from that joy. With Kissa Shuru Talkies Home Cinema, we are rewriting that story" said Suntosh S. Berajdar, Co-Founder & MD, Kissa Shuru Talkies. " Our mission is to ensure that every household, regardless of geography, can access the same films on the same day as urban audiences. This is not just about entertainment, it's about cultural inclusion, empowerment and giving rural communities a frontâÂÂrow seat to India's cinematic journey."
"Our vision is simple yet powerful. Every home deserves the joy of cinema," said Abhishek Pramod Jathar, CEO of Kissa Shuru Talkies. "This platform is not just about movies; it's about inclusion, access and the celebration of storytelling."
Sachin Pilgaonkar, Veteran Actor, Director & Producer, added: "People in Maharashtra often travel 40 to 50 kilometers just to watch a film. This initiative brings Marathi cinema to areas without theaters, expanding reach without competing with existing owners. 'Kissa Shuru Talkies' is a bold, essential step toward making Marathi cinema bigger and accessible to every corner of the State."
According to internal projections, the platform could generate up to â¹2,085 crore annually if rolled out across India, with nearly â¹185 crore in Maharashtra alone by Year 2. Importantly, half of all revenues flow directly to film producers, creating a powerful new income stream while expanding audience reach. With each family screening priced at â¹99, producers stand to benefit from millions of additional viewings across rural households.
