Fashion education today is increasingly being measured by the opportunities it creates beyond the classroom. Reflecting this industry-first approach, NIF Global Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar hosted its F&I Fashion Show 2026, bringing together students, fashion professionals, parents, alumni, faculty members, media representatives and social media influencers for one of Gujarat's largest student-led fashion showcases.
Leading the initiative was Vishal Makwana, Fashion Entrepreneur and Director of NIF Global Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, who has over 16 years of experience in the fashion industry and fashion education. Having successfully directed and curated more than 25 fashion shows, Makwana has consistently focused on creating professional platforms that bridge the gap between academic learning and the global fashion industry.
The F&I Fashion Show 2026 provided students with a complete professional runway experience through world-class production, backstage coordination, lighting, music, choreography and styling. More than 150 student designers participated in the showcase, presenting over 250 original garments, each reflecting months of research, concept development, textile exploration, garment construction and styling.
The collections were showcased under diverse themes including Avant Garde, Fashion for a Cause, Design for Nature, Traditional and World Mosaic, demonstrating creativity, sustainability, innovation and India's rich design heritage through contemporary fashion.
Popular social media influencers walked the runway for selected collections, helping amplify the visibility of the young designers and enabling them to connect with wider digital audiences. The event also highlighted the collaborative nature of the fashion industry, with students working alongside faculty members, makeup artists, hairstylists, choreographers and production teams to deliver a seamless showcase.
According to Vishal Makwana, Fashion Entrepreneur, experiential learning remains one of the strongest pillars of fashion education. He believes students gain confidence and industry readiness when they present their work before professional audiences rather than limiting their learning to classrooms and design studios.
Under Makwana's leadership, students from NIF Global Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar have also earned international exposure by participating in prestigious London Fashion Week, Dubai Fashion Week and New York Fashion Week. Over the years, students mentored by him have collectively showcased more than 200 garments across these global fashion platforms, providing aspiring designers with valuable international exposure and helping them understand global fashion trends, presentation standards and market expectations.
This international participation reflects Makwana's long-term vision of preparing students for global opportunities while nurturing creativity rooted in Indian design sensibilities. His focus has been on providing aspiring designers with platforms that not only showcase talent but also help them build confidence, professional networks and industry recognition.
The evening concluded with a spectacular grand finale, where all participating designers walked the runway alongside their mentors and faculty members. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony recognising outstanding student collections across multiple categories, followed by the felicitation of sponsors, industry partners, jury members and distinguished guests for their contribution to the success of F&I Fashion Show 2026.
