Works all night to record special song for Raavan music release without the director's knowledge
A R Rahman surprised Mani Ratnam and the cast and crew of Raavan at the film's music launch on Saturday night by singing a song they did not know about. The song Jaa re udd jaa re, written by Gulzar, was yet to be composed and was not even a part of Raavan's audio CD. But Mani had been keen that Rahman sing in Raavan. So Rahman sat through Friday night to compose the song and then recorded it in his own voice. He then performed it at the launch, much to the delight of everyone present.
Mani and Rahman have had a long association, with Rahman composing for all of Mani's films whether it was Roja, Dil Se or Guru.
