>>u00a0Husain's mother died when he was one and a half years old. His father remarried and moved to Indore, where Husain went to school. In 1935, he moved to Mumbai and was admitted to the Sir J J School of Artu00a0
>>u00a0His first solo exhibition was held at Zurich in 1952. Over the next few years, his paintings were widely appreciated in Europe and USA. In 1966, je was awarded the prestigious Padma Shree.
He has also been awarded the Padma Bhushan. The Government of India also appointed him to a term in the Rajya Sabha, in recognition of his contribution to art.u00a0
