The plot of Sajid Nadiadwala's Ranbir Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra starrer Anjaana Anjaani directed by Siddharth Anand is heavily guarded. However, a source close to the project reveals that the flick is based on the 1999 French film La Fille Sur Le Pont (The Girl On The Bridge).

Reveals the source. "Anjaana Anjaani has Ranbir and Priyanka as complete strangers who bump into each other on a bridge. Both are trying to find luck in their life after several failed attempts to be successful in their careers and in love. Fed up, they both decide to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge. However, both land up on the same bridge at the same time. RK stops PC from jumping and tells her to travel with him to Vegas to make it big."
Similarly, La Fille ufffd is the story of knife-thrower Gabor (Daniel Auteuil) and Ad le (Vanessa Paradis), a girl who intends to kill herself by jumping off a bridge. Gabor intervenes and persuades Ad le to become the target girl in his knife-throwing act. The film follows their relationship as they travel around Europe with the act, ending in Istanbul when they get separated and their lives once again becomes luckless.
The source adds that while the original might have the couple separating in the end, "in Anjaana Anjaani, the lead pair end up together. Starting off as strangers, they not only get luck by their side but also manage to fall in love."
PC and RK's introduction scene on the bridge was to be shot in the US, but since they didn't get permission, the crew is now shooting it in Malaysia.
