The celebrities also took to Twitter to wish everyone a Happy Gandhi Jayanti. "Namaskar. Aaj humare Pujya Mahatma Gandhi ji aur Lal Bahadur Shastri ji ki jayanti hai (Hello! Today is Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri's birth anniversaries).
Mera unko koti koti Pranam (I extend my heartfelt salutations)," melody queen Lata Mangeshkar tweeted.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan wrote, "Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment....full effort is full victory. Mahatma Gandhi. Happy B'Day."

Bollywood playback singer Nigam, while wishing the two leaders, hailed Gandhi as his favourite role model.

"My favourite role model since my childhood... Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti.. The Great Lal Bahadur Shastri Jayanti. Pranaams," he wrote on his Twitter page. 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' star Farhan Akhtar remembered Gandhi's sayings on the occasion.

"Be the change you want to see, Mahatma Gandhi. Simple yet profound principle to live one's life by," he said. Actor Anil Kapoor, who turned producer with critically-acclaimed film 'Gandhi, My Father' (2007), wrote, "The best way to find yourself is to loose yourself in the service of others - Mahatma Gandhi. Happy Gandhi Jayanti!"

"Happy Gandhi Jayanti. It's not just another holiday, or a man on a currency note... It's a spiritual philosophy and true evolution," tweeted actress Richa Chaddha.

Singer Shaan, actresses Ameesha Patel and Dia Mirza also wished their fans a happy Gandhi jayanti.
