'1/2
What's it about: A remake of Nathan Lane's hilarious comic caper (The Producers), DRJ is an attempt to tickle your funny bone without giving you much to chew on. Anand (Kunal Khemu) is a CA harboring big dreams to settle down with his girlfriend Neha (Soha Ali Khan). The problem is that they both are nobodys in this big city. While Anand worships his principles of honesty, Neha dreams of making it big as an actress. They stumble upon bankrupt film producer Raj Chopra (Paresh Rawal) who wants to resurrect his career with the help of superstar Aryan Kapoor (Sonu Sood). Raj and Anand unite and decide to produce a film with Aryan Kapoor. What follows is scheming and plotting to fool investors into making a project, which is a spoof of some big films (Gadar, Sholay, Lagaan, DDLJ).
What's hot: Kunal Khemu is sincere as the stuttering Anand. Hugely underused and a charmer on screen, the actor has potential that can be tapped by a good director. Sonu is honest and impresses in his role as a popular Bollywood actor. Paresh Rawal is dependable and raises the chuckles at right places.
What's not: Despite an interesting concept, the film falls flat most of the times. The jokes though simple and light fail to make the needed effect. The final spoof doesn't come out as funny as expected. The songs are lacklustre and except the opening number, everything else disappoints. What sets out to be a fun and satirical look at the industry ends up being an annoying montage of disappointing scenes.
What to do: Skip this one and rent The Producers instead.
