Mass molestation at Gargi College: Students across Delhi unite to protest against u2018 inactionu2019

New Delhi: Four days after a group of men broke into the all- women Gargi College and allegedly groped and harassed students, Delhi police registered a case on Monday as hundreds of students protested demanding strict action against the intruders.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Teachersu2019 Association wrote to Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik over u2018 inaction of police in the matter of the investigation into mob violenceu2019. The National Studentsu2019 Union of India also extended support to the survivors of the molestation and accused the authority of not taking prompt action.

The outrage of Gargi students following the attacks during their college festival on February 6 found wide echo with students from other colleges sharing their anguish, political parties speaking out and the issue being raised in Parliament.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal termed the incident u201c extremely unfortunateu201d while Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal u2018 Nishanku2019 said those involved in the act were outsiders and the college administration has been asked to take strict action against them.

The Delhi units of the BJP and the Congress united on a common platform with both asking that the culprits be arrested at the earliest.

Fighting allegations that the college administration turned a deaf ear to their complaints and did nothing, Principal Promila Kumar said the college has filed a police complaint and set up an internal inquiry committee to look into the matter.
