Purab Kohli, VJ and actorI have always been disturbed by the issue of gender discrimination and wanted to do something for the cause.
I'm happy to be a part of Fight Back, a forum that raises its voice against gender violence and inequality.
I don't think abuse is just about a man or a woman being beaten up. It is a more layered issue than that. Very often the victims actually feel they deserve this form of physical abuse. I have a maid who sometimes comes home with a swollen lip or a cut on her face and when we ask her what happened, she very matter-of-factly tells us that her husband hit her. And she always laughs while saying that. I also know of many men who are beaten up by their wives. So, I feel that more than anything, we need to change the mindset of people and spread the word that domestic violence is downright uncouth. Because at the end of the day, abuse is abuse - whether mental or physical.
Saving the environment is another cause that is very close to my heart. From turning the lights off while leaving the house, to not using plastic bags, walking as much as I can, to not wasting water - this isu00a0 the least that I can do for my planet. Recently, I was buying something at a medical store when another customer asked for a plastic bag for a small little purchase that he had made. Needless to say, he got a piece of my mind. If a billion of us do our duty of conserving the environment in our little ways, we'll surely be making a difference!
