20th Century Fox files plagiarism case against Ravi Chopra's film

Ravi Chopra's Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai is in more trouble. The film, plagued with problems since Day One, has now received a lawsuit from 20th Century Fox, who are demanding Rs 7 crore from the producers as they allege that BYBH is a remake of the English film My Cousin Vinny.

Striking similarities

A source reveals, "It is a known fact in industry circles that this Govinda, Lara Dutta and Sushmita Sen starrer is a straight lift from My Cousin Vinny.

Now, the executives at 20th Century Fox somehow managed to get hold of the final shooting draft of Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai and were astonished by the striking similarities between the two films and decided to sue for copyright violation."

The source further adds, "After looking at the script they served a legal notice to Chopra on the grounds of plagiarism.

The Indian branch of Fox has filed the suit against Chopra and his script in the Mumbai High Court. Chopra is still to get back to this case as he has been in a serious state of shock after receiving the letter from the court."

In the past, Warner Bros had filed a similar case against the makers of Salman Khan and Govinda starrer Partner but the case is still doing the rounds of the courts.

This time the evidence that the folks at Fox hold, are enough to sink this movie. What happens now?

Director Ravi Chopra says, "We have it in writing about them giving the rights to us. I have no idea why they've still filed a case, but we have it in writing asu00a0 proof."
