Sanjay Dutt's Aakhri Sawal is all set to hit theatres on May 15, 2026, following delays. The makers recently released a teaser and trailer of the film, packed with a bold, truth-telling narrative. And now the film has cleared the censorship test with a U/A certificate.

Aakshra Sawal gets U/A certificate

Aakhri Sawal, headlined by Sanjay Dutt, has become one of the most talked-about films of the year thanks to its bold, intense, and thought-provoking narrative. The film grabbed attention after the launch of its trailer, which blended intense drama, political tension, and emotionally stirring moments.

Now, the film has officially been granted a UA 16+ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), paving the way for its grand theatrical release on May 15, 2026. Notably, the certificate arrives just two days ahead of its release, and at a time when the trailer continues to spark buzz online.

The trailer presents a gripping world filled with student movements, questions around freedom of speech, and debates about India's socio-political history. It hints at controversial incidents associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), creating curiosity among viewers. Besides Sanjay Dutt, the cast features Amit Sadh, Sameera Reddy, Tridha Choudhury, Neetu Chandra, and Namashi Chakraborty in key roles.

Aakhri Sawal delayed

Aakhri Sawal is directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Abhijeet Mohan Warang and presented by Nikhil Nanda. It is produced by Nikhil Nanda and Sanjay Dutt, and co-produced by Puneet Nanda, Dr. Deepak Singh, Gaurav Dubey, and Ujjwal Anand.

The film was initially planned to be released on May 8, but was later postponed to May 15. An India Today report earlier suggested that the makers had submitted the trailer to the board several days ago, but were still awaiting approval a week ahead of its May 8 release. Generally, trailer certifications are processed within three working days. However, in the case of Aakhri Sawal, four days have passed without a response.

Similarly, the film was first submitted to the board on April 20, and was also pending with the board. Its screening had taken place on April 27. According to industry practice, screenings can take time to schedule, since board members must be notified and a mutually convenient time is arranged. However, even after screening, the certificate was bending with the CBFC.
