Director Ahmed Khan and actor Shahid Kapoor have been childhood friends. However, rumours were rife that the friends had drifted apart. Now, the filmmaker has opened up about their bond, explaining how their creative choices have changed and why a reunion will happen only when the timing feels right.
Ahmed broke his silence on his equation with Shahid and spoke about their possible reunion. He told News18, "I did Aankhon Mein Tera Hi Chehra (Shahid's debut in a '90s music video by the band Aryans) and his first film Ishq Vishk as a choreographer. Then I directed him in a film called Fool & Final. After that, I produced Paathshala, in which he played a role. But in recent years, he's been following a certain template of films that he wants to do. I, on the other hand, am making a certain kind of films that I want to make."
"We'll come together when we're on the same page about the kind of films that we want to do. I know that if I take a script to him at that time, he'll jump into it. But at this point, it's a fifty-fifty scenario," he further continued.
"I mean, we don't meet that much. We are childhood friends. We became friends when I was 11 and he was all of 7. So, our friendship started some 30 years back. But yeh kaam hi aisa hai na ki isme kai naye dost aate hai. You befriend so many new people that you forget who your real friends are. Our lifestyles have changed now," he said.
In an interview with Pinkvilla in 2015, Ahmed Khan stated that he was hospitalised after suffering vertigo attacks. However, Shahid didn't even visit him once. Later, Ahmed wasn't invited to Shahid's wedding either, which took place the same year. The director said, "We've had some differences that were brewing for a while. They just erupted, and as the world knows, I wasn't invited to his wedding. He didn't come to visit me when I was injured."
Ahmed recently helmed Welcome To The Jungle, which is receiving a positive response. The comic caper stars Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Raveena Tandon, Farida Jalal, and many more actors.
Talking about Shahid, he was seen in Cocktail 2. Directed by Homi Adajania, the film also starred Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon. It received a mixed response at the box office.
